On Conversations: #interview with #AAMBookclub #author Lakisha Johnson

Please join me in welcoming author Lakisha Johnson to Conversations today! Lakisha is here to talk about her new novel, Ms. Nice Nasty! So, check out the cover and blurb below. And don't forget to check out her interview too, and get to know Lakisha Johnson!

_____________________________________________

Ms. Nice Nasty

Camille Holden-Shannon has always been who she says she is, a woman who can command a courtroom and bedroom without opening her mouth! She’s sexy, confident and not afraid; her credentials speak for themselves. She loves her family and her career but she cannot deny the fact that she loves sex and lots of it. She doesn’t break up homes; she simply gets what she needs and she’s gone!

Her career suddenly takes a turn in the right direction and she is thrown into the public’s eye and all hell breaks loose! A secret adds more fuel to the fire already burning inside her chaotic home and to make matters worse she finds herself being tormented by a ghost from her past! Can she hold it all together or will she break under the pressure? Will Ms. Nice Nasty hang up her stilettos or can she come out on top like she’s known to do.

Interview with Lakisha Johnson

Who is Lakisha, the author?

Lakisha the author is just this regular girl from Memphis, TN who has been given a gift of writing. I don't limit myself to a specific genre to write because if I have an idea and it flows, it works. I am who you see. If you don't know me, get to know me. Don't take the word of someone else, their opinion of me may be based on their feelings. Get to know Lakisha the author and Lakisha the person, you'll find they are one in the same.

You have a new book out, tell us about it.

My new book, Ms. Nice Nasty, is actually about one of the characters from my previous series, A Secret Worth Keeping. It's about Camille or Cam and it takes you deeper into her personal and career life and how they both become intertwined when her sexual desires begin to cause hell in her home and then when someone from her past come back to haunt her present. Cam has never been shy about her love for sex but when it begins to affect her life, personally and career wise; she has to decide what's more important.

How has the success of A Secret Worth Keeping series affected your career?

It has affected it in a positive way. Becoming a published author has being mind blowing and eye opening. It has taken me places I've never been, I've met people I would have never met and I've done things that I would have never done such as book club meetings and book signings. The success of A Secret Worth Keeping has been major and I could not have done it without the people who support me.

What's next for you?

I keep writing! I'm working on part 2 of Ms. Nice Nasty as well as a special project with my sister and who knows what's next. All I know is I will keep writing. My plan is to revamp my devotional books and possibly write another devotional in the near future. Who knows... There's no limit!

If you could offer any advice to aspiring authors, what would it be?

To never allow the ink to run dry in your pen! Many times we give up when the book sales are down, when we get a bad review, when we don't get published or simply when things don't go the way we think they should but never give up! Being an author isn't easy whether it's self published or published or whether it's with a big publishing company or a small one... It's hard work and no one will work harder for you than you! Don't ever give up on your dreams, no matter what they are!

Lakisha Johnson was born on May 2, 1977 in Memphis, TN. I am a Christian who wasn't always saved and who still, sometimes, make mistakes because I am human. I am the daughter of 1 strong woman, granddaughter of another strong woman, wife of 1 husband, mother of 2 children, sister to 3 brothers and 3 sisters, cousin to many, niece to 7 uncles and 2 aunts, an aunt to 5 nephews and 8 nieces, best friend to 6 wonderful women and friend to all those who show themselves friendly! I am one whom God chooses to bless everyday he allows my eyes to open. I am a college graduate with 2 Associate Degrees in Information Technology. I am a writer of Daily Devotionals and I try my best to be an encourager to all those who look to me for encouragement.

I am not perfect but I am a work in progress, so pray for me. I won't claim to be a bible scholar but I have been given a gift of writing, so writing I shall do!

On Conversations: #bestselling #author Judith Arnold

Please join me in welcoming the USA Today bestselling author, Judith Arnold to Conversations today! Judith is here to talk about book 4 of The Magic Jukebox series, Heat Wave. So be sure and check out Judith's commentary, and the cover and blurb below!

Judith Arnold on Heat Wave, Her Newest Magic Jukebox Romance

Remember when every booth in a diner was equipped with its own individual jukebox? As a child, I loved flipping through the pages of those booth jukeboxes and deciding which song from each page I would choose to play, if only I had tons of money (and my parents weren’t there, griping about that awful rock-and-roll.) When I was older, my friends and I would gather around a free-standing jukebox, arguing over which three songs to play on our quarter, making our choices, hoping we didn’t press the wrong buttons and get stuck listening to a song we hated. I especially liked jukeboxes with clear glass windshields that allowed me to see the armature slide up and down the row of 45’s, finally plucking one and transferring it to the turntable.

It all seemed magical. And the music had its own magic. Some songs made me dance. Some made me sing. Some made me sigh, or cry. They all cast spells on me.

So I guess it’s only natural that I’d write a series of romances about a magic jukebox. A beautiful antique jukebox that could cast a spell on listeners with the music it played? This seemed perfectly logical to me.

I created the picturesque seaside town of Brogan’s Point, north of Boston, and planted the Magic Jukebox inside an unpretentious pub called the Faulk Street Tavern, run by a no-nonsense six-foot-tall woman named Gus Naukonen. Gus has never been bewitched by the jukebox herself, and her boyfriend, police detective Ed Nolan, thinks the whole mythology surrounding the jukebox is a bunch of hokum. But Gus has seen its effect on her customers.

In Changes, the first book in the series, wealthy Bostonian Diana Simms is in town with her fiancĂ© to look at wedding venues, but when the jukebox plays the David Bowie song “Changes,” it creates a connection between her and Nick Fiore, a local boy with a troubled past who now tries to help other troubled youths. In True Colors, the Cyndi Lauper song “True Colors” transforms the relationship between artist Emma Glendon and high-tech mogul Max Tarloff, who happens to be her landlord. In Wild Thing, the Troggs song “Wild Thing” plays, and Emma’s best friend, Monica Reinhart, discovers the wildness inside herself when bad boy Ty Cronin sails into town.

It took a few months to get Heat Wave written and ready, but now the newest Magic Jukebox book is available. You may be familiar with the Martha and the Vandellas version of “Heat Wave,” which I use in the book, or the Linda Ronstadt version. Both are loud, bouncy and infectious. In Heat Wave, Caleb Solomon, the lawyer who defends Ty when he gets himself into serious hot water in Wild Thing, is suffering from a broken air conditioner in the midst of a hot, humid stretch of weather. He’s in the Faulk Street Tavern, cooling off, when high school teacher Meredith Benoit encounters him. Meredith has been the victim of a prank which might cost her her job, and she needs a lawyer. They both also need some relief from the heat wave enveloping the town—and the heated wave of passion that sweeps through them when the jukebox captivates them with its magic.

I hope you’ll give Heat Wave—and all the Magic Jukebox books—a try. If you love music, and if you love romance novels with just a touch of magic in them, you’ll love this series.

HEAT WAVE

The Magic Jukebox sits in the Faulk Street Tavern in the quiet seaside town of Brogan’s Point, Massachusetts. No one knows what classic rock songs will come out of the jukebox when a coin is inserted, but every now and then, the jukebox will play a song that casts a spell on two bar patrons—a song that will change their lives and open their hearts to love.

Caleb Solomon’s office air conditioner is on the fritz. Although not his choice, he winds up meeting with a difficult but profitable client in the pleasant chill of the air-conditioned Faulk Street Tavern. It’s there that high school teacher Meredith Benoit finds him. Due to a silly prank, her job and her reputation are in jeopardy. She needs a lawyer, fast. But the Magic Jukebox starts playing “Heat Wave,” and a hot wave of passion crashes over Caleb and Meredith, catching them in its undertow and carrying them off.

On Conversations: #award-winning #author Leigh Court

Please join me in welcoming the award-winning author, Leigh Court to Conversations today! Leigh is here to talk about her new contemporary romance, Fear Of Flying. So be sure and check out Leigh's commentary, and the cover, blurb and excerpt from Fear Of Flying!

__________________________________________

Many thanks for letting me blog today, Lisa!

Confession: I’ve pretty much always been afraid to fly. It started at age 18, with a rough plane ride on my first flight to Europe. Since then I’ve tried not to let my fear of flying control my life, but every time I board a plane, I can’t help but get a little nervous. Ironically, I’ve had a fortune teller assure me I’ll never die in a plane crash and an astrologer friend tell me I will live to a nice old age. I think of those two women every time I buckle my seatbelt!!

But now I’ve found a way to turn my fear of flying into a positive thing.

I’m the author of nine books, and the advice always given to writers is “write what you know.” So for my latest story, aptly titled Fear Of Flying, I decided to get semi-autobiographical. I gave my heroine, Jessie Jordan, a fear of flying and wrote her story based on many of the real-life experiences I’ve had.

A job as a book publicist? Check. On a nationwide book tour with a travel writer? Check. Winter de-icing of plane wings and bouts of white-knuckle clear air turbulence? Check!

Everyone probably has stories of scary plane flights, me just more than most people. And I included them all in this book! Pretty much everything in it is true, except for the ex-military travel writer hero of the story, Regan Quade, whose lust for Jessie helped make this a very hot contemporary romance!

FEAR OF FLYING

“You’re never going to die in a plane crash…”

Book publicist Jessie Jordan is deathly afraid of flying, which prompts travel writer Regan Quade to come up with a highly imaginative (and very intimate!) way to calm her anxiety. When they’re thrown together on a two-week cross-country book tour, the result just might be a bestseller!

This romance is definitely one wild ride! I’ve gotten some great reviews and some wonderful feedback from readers. Here are some buy links if this sounds like a fun read to you…

Excerpt from Fear Of Flying by Leigh Court

“You’re never going to die in a plane crash.”
Jessie Jordan stared into the piercing blue eyes of the old fortune teller, her mouth going suddenly dry. She didn’t believe in fortune tellers, or psychics, or any paranormal stuff, but one of her girlfriends had given her this “reading” as a birthday present, and Jessie’s curiosity had gotten the better of her. She’d expected the gray-haired woman to spout some generic drivel, like ‘you will meet a handsome stranger’ or ‘you will come into some unexpected money.’
Not to predict something that would hit so close to home.
“How… How could you possibly know I’m afraid of flying?”
“This.” The woman opened her palm, where Jessie’s pearl ring was nestled. “It vibrates your fear.”
The fortune teller had requested a personal item that she’d claimed would help her see Jessie’s future. So Jessie had handed over the simple pearl ring she always wore – the one her parents had given her for her eighteenth birthday a decade ago, and which had been on her finger a month later, when her parents had taken her to Italy for a two-week vacation.
      Her first airplane ride.
And the most traumatic experience of her life.
Nervous as Jessie had been about stepping onto the huge plane in New York that summer, the overnight flight had been fine until the aircraft had started its descent into Leonardo da Vinci airport the next morning. The 747, as Jessie later learned, did a common ‘step landing,’ which entailed descending a few thousand feet, gliding, then descending a few more thousand feet on its approach to landing.
Trouble was, every time the plane sank on its glide path, Jessie had been convinced they were going to crash. She’d never been very good with roller coasters, and the wavy motion of the plane had made her sick to her stomach. The minute she’d felt a sour taste in her mouth, she’d known she was in trouble.
The flight attendants had ordered everyone to buckle their seatbelts for landing, but Jessie had shakily unhooked hers and scrambled into the aisle, making a mad dash for the bathroom in case she was going to throw up. She’d never made it. A flight attendant at the back of the plane had blocked Jessie’s desperate beeline down the aisle and literally shoved her into an empty seat in one of the last rows, ordering her to buckle up for the landing.
That’s where a guardian angel had come to her rescue. A young man in military uniform in the next seat had urged her to put her head between her knees and just breathe. As Jessie had bent over, shaking with her effort not to get sick, she’d felt his hand gently stroking her back, trying to calm her. With his other hand, he’d slipped an air sickness bag between her knees, just in case.
But it turned out she hadn’t needed it.
His advice worked. The plane landed without her making a scene.
Jessie gazed at the fortune teller in front of her, her mind lingering on that old memory. Odd, but she hadn’t thought about that guy in ten years. She’d never even found out his name, although she could still remember the brilliant smile of approval he’d given her when the plane landed.
To this day, she was still a nervous wreck whenever she had to fly, but she’d tried hard during the last decade not to let that fear dictate her life. In fact, she’d taken a job three years ago as a book publicist, which entailed flying around the country with authors promoting new book releases.
Jessie believed in facing her fears.
“Here.” The fortune teller handed back Jessie’s pearl ring with a knowing look. “You didn’t believe in my ability when you sat down at my table. Do you believe now?”
She cleared her throat. “Actually, I expected you to tell me I’m going to meet a tall, dark stranger. I mean, there’s no wedding ring on my finger. That would have been the obvious thing to say.”
The fortune teller laughed. “Oh, that will happen, too, my dear. In fact, the two things are fatefully intertwined. But it seemed more important to reassure you about your fear of flying.”
Oh, brother. Jessie rolled her eyes. She was going to meet a tall, dark stranger? Okay. Time to get out of here.
The old woman tilted her head and gave Jessie a perceptive, all-knowing look. “Just remember what I told you. There’s no escaping fate.”

Dakota Hearts series, Book 8

The last thing Luke McKinnon wanted in life was to work at the family oil business. He'd done a good job steering clear of that by setting up a successful law practice in Sioux Falls. But when the patriarch of the family falls sick, Luke steps in. He's only trading his crisp white dress shirt for a t-shirt and hardhat until his father is back on his feet. He doesn't plan on sticking around. That is...until he meets Tessa.

She doesn't have time for a man to mess up her fragile life...until Luke McKinnon shows up on her rig. The handsome lawyer is probably used to having beautiful women draped on his arm. But at the end of the day, it's a miracle if she can get all the dirt and grime out from under her fingernails. The two of them couldn't be more different. But none of that matters. She quickly learns what a fool she'd been to think of Luke as just a lawyer who can help her get what she wants. They both know the games killers play...

FBI criminal profiler Madison Harper understands dangerous minds. Tough, tenacious, with nerves of steel, she’s the best of the best. So is her new partner, Gabriel Roarke, a crack CIA operative who likes to do things his way. When the two are forced to jointly head up a task force investigating murder in high places – it’s no surprise that sparks begin to fly.

As they race through a shadow world of power, politics and deadly secrets, the passion that simmers between Madison and Gabriel soon ignites. But a clever killer at the top of his game has challenged Madison to play to the very end. Now all she can trust is her instincts—and Gabriel, the one man reckless enough to keep her alive...

Excerpt from Endgame by Dee Davis

“Madison Harper?” The voice was deep, almost a bass, the sound sending a wave of something akin to pleasure coursing down her spine. She swung around, her eyes locking with pale blue eyes in the midst of a hard, chiseled face.
The eyes narrowed as the man with the voice let his gaze travel from her head to her feet then back again, the look measuring, weighing her worth. Black hair curled around his temples, a couple days worth of beard decorating his chin. He should have looked unkempt, but instead looked rakish, the glint in his eyes letting her know he was more than aware of his effect on the fairer sex.
“Gabriel Roarke,” he said, leaning against the door frame, crossing his arms over his chest, his mouth quirking upward ever so slightly.
She opened her mouth to say something pithy, but couldn’t get the words past the cotton in her throat. Gabriel Roarke was anything but average. Seven years in the Bureau, five of them working with Investigative Support meant that she could be pretty certain her reaction was well hidden. But the very fact that she was having it at all, didn’t sit well.
The last thing she needed was a pretty boy with attitude. “I wasn’t expecting you until this afternoon.” She carefully modulated her voice, keeping it neutral, almost bland. She’d used the exact tone on reticent offenders with great effect.
Gabriel’s left eyebrow rose, the resulting expression somewhere between amused and demonic. “I caught a ride on a cargo plane out of Tyndall.”
“There was no need to rush over. You could have at least waited until you’d had a shower.” It was her turn to measure him, and she had to admit there was nothing a good haircut and a shave wouldn’t fix.
His lips parted in a smile, his teeth white against the beard, making her think of a pirate. “I’ve been here since yesterday evening, and if you’d care to check,” he languidly lifted an arm, resting it on the doorframe, “I think you’ll find I’ve showered.”
Their eyes locked, the air hanging between them, heavy as if it were laced with cyanide. One breath and ...
Behind her, Harrison cleared his throat.
She exhaled and turned gratefully toward her friend. “I’d like you to meet a colleague, Harrison Blake. He’s an expert with a computer, and I’ve asked him to join us. I hope you don’t mind?” She smiled, knowing full well the gesture was empty.
There was just something off-putting about Gabriel Roarke. As if he kept the world at arm’s length, totally self-contained. A man of mystery.
Which simply meant he was a challenge. After all cracking personalities was her specialty. The darker the better. And if she could successfully profile someone like the Sinatra killer, she could surely deal with a CIA operative -- no matter his baggage...

OH, HAPPY DAY!

Happy April! Happy Spring! Happy, happy...birthday Toad!

20 Years ago, on April 5th 1995 The Frogman, Prince was born, a thirty-three year-old Navy SEAL. One of my many quirks is to give one character the book's start date as a birthday....

While Lieutenant Thaddeus Miles Prince, aka Tad or The Toad is forever young, it's been awhile since I could pull off thirty-something. Not saying I'm going anywhere. I'd like to think I have several more books in me, but I'm tried of putting this one off.

There are reasons why I couldn't publish this book before now, but again...tired of making excuses.

So without further ado...

THE FROGMAN, PRINCE

A princess, a toad and a curse…

Kissing a toad wasn’t on her agenda.

Ship’s Captain Lily Chapel is running out of time. Desperate to save her family’s ocean salvage business, Lily risks everything to carry on her late father’s search for the legendary—some say mythical—treasure of the infamous pirate ship, The Golden Curse. The last thing she needs is a scarred frogman commandeering her vessel for his mission.

Rescuing a princess wasn’t part of his plan.

Get in, get out and no one gets hurt—a simple credo that’s served Lieutenant Tad “The Toad” Prince well…until he meets Lily Chapel. Right from the start this mission was personal. In exchange for information regarding stolen warheads, Prince has promised to absolve his old mentor’s daughter—provided she’s innocent. And if she’s not?

Can the daughter of a notorious smuggler—a smuggler in her own right—and a hardened Navy SEAL trust each other long enough to uncover a four hundred year old shipwreck and recover missing cold war missiles in the process?
