Complicating matters, Gus' ex-girlfriend is the last person to have seen the victim alive.

Excerpt from MISSING: THE LADY SAID NO

“If there’s something you want to share; it would be just between the two of us.” He waved the bread in the air.

She hesitated, then glanced around before leaning close. “Mr. Jorgenson was real worried about his horse, Forever Humble. I thinks he has a lot invested in the race. Emmett says he’s been hanging out at the track night and day.” She covered her face with her hands, one bandaged white, one black. “It’s just so sad.”

Hmm. That was interesting. He’d heard rumors around town that the Jorgensons were in financial straits, but he’d put it down to jealousy and human nature. Obviously, there was more to the story than he’d figured.

Maybe even enough for murder?

Gus finished the soup and thanked the young cook before making his way into the main part of the house. Fine hardwood floors and the dark wainscoting lined the walls. Everything was polished to within an inch of its life and glistened from top to bottom. How could anyone feel comfortable in a place like this? Bet the Jorgensons never kicked their feet up onto the coffee table to relax, or left their rooms in robes in search of a midnight snack. This was the type of house that demanded decorum.

As if to prove his verdict, a man came into view at the end of the hall. He was directing the coroner, Nancy Huggins, to a room with a police guard, disapproval radiating from his immaculate frame. He wore a suit nicer than Gus’ funeral attire, all three pieces starched and pressed to perfection. A wrinkle wouldn’t dare latch itself to those clothes.

Gus looked down at his own rumpled shirt and skewed tie and shrugged.

Nancy caught his eye and raised her brow. “Augustus. What brings you to the back of beyond?”

The manservant turned, and a chill crawled down Gus’ back. The guy had the deadest, black eyes he’d ever seen.

“I’m…ah, here to investigate the Jorgenson case. The Brass called and requested me for this one.”

“Hmm, must be important then. I heard you received a medal from the President.”

Gus squirmed.

He hadn’t done anything to deserve a medal. It was pure luck that he figured out the plot to kidnap the President’s daughter, and was able to catch the perps before they got away with the deed.

“Why were you in the back of the house, sir? That area is reserved for the servants.” The manservant folded his arms and waited for an answer. Gus felt like a misbehaving child all over again.

“I, ah… came in from the pool, after talking to Mrs. Jorgenson. She gave me permission to question the staff as I see fit.” He met the man’s coal dark gaze. “And you are?”

Gus didn’t think it was possible for the broom handle to climb any further up the man’s butt.

“That’s Ernest. He takes a while to warm up to strangers,” a lilting voice drifted down from the upper reaches of the home.

Gus froze. His heart battered the walls of his chest. There was a ringing in his ears. The chicken soup threatened to revolt.

“Hello, Augustus.”

BLACK HILLS LEGACY
(Black Hills Rendezvous Book 10)

Nothing like an unconscious doppelganger to ruin a perfectly good day at the Mystery Spot.

Robyn Craine has two loves: her Harley and the Mystery Spot, the Black Hills tourist attraction she bought with funds from her late mother’s estate, an inheritance that included a generous gift from billionaire Harold Hopewell. With a chance-of-a-lifetime expansion in the works, Robyn doesn’t have time to babysit the handsome Sentinel Passtime actor who shows up to do “research”–especially when she figures out his connection to the wealthy businessman/politician trying to sabotage her new project.

Liam Temple has no intention of falling for a Black Hills local. His agent has Liam’s breakout, big budget movie deal lined up. Even though Liam likes his current Sentinel Passtime gig, he promised his late sister he’d win a Golden Globe by thirty-five. The last thing he needs is the distraction of a feisty, Harley-riding tourist trap owner caught in Liam’s father’s crosshairs for buying a hunk of land Richard Marston thinks belongs to him. But when Robyn’s doppelganger stunt double is attacked, Liam recognizes his father’s MO and Liam makes keeping Robyn safe his first priority.

MURDOCH'S BRIDE
(Montana Sky)

Stranded in the snow…

Charity Kelso is accompanying her fussy Aunt Edwina from New York to Oregon when their train is wrecked and the passenger cars burn. Sweetwater Springs doesn’t have a hotel, so passengers are parceled out to townsfolk’s homes. No one wants anything to do with complaining Aunt Edwina. That also leaves Charity and their newly widowed friend Amelia nowhere to stay until the tracks are repaired. A new blizzard is headed their way, so what are they to do?

Logan Murdoch and his brother came to Sweetwater Springs to restock before the next storm arrives. Against Logan’s better judgment, the sheriff convinces him to take three “innocent, stranded women” to Murdoch Ranch. Other than their housekeeper-cook, a woman hasn’t set foot in the Murdoch home in the twenty years since Logan’s mother abandoned them. He doesn’t expect his father to welcome these unwanted visitors.

Both Charity and Logan are surprised at the events that unfold. How could this have happened?

Excerpt from MURDOCH'S BRIDE

The Murdoch men came inside as Charity came down the stairs from fetching a clean handkerchief for her aunt.

Logan said, “Ornery old cow.”

Charity gave Edwina her hanky and stomped toward him. “Mr. Logan, may I speak to you privately?”

Surprise showed on his face. “Uh, sure. Guess we can go into the office.”

He led the way to a room she hadn’t seen, obviously where the ranch records were kept. “Will this do, Miss Kelso?”

She closed the door behind them. “Logan Murdoch, you have your nerve calling my aunt names. For your information, she’s had a horrible life and no one, not her selfish parents, not her cheating husband, not even her son ever loved her. And, that includes my father, who’s her younger brother.”

He stood looking poleaxed. “I never said—”

She stabbed at his chest with her forefinger. “I heard what you said. You called her an ornery old cow. She may be difficult sometimes, but if you knew everything about her you’d understand and be patient and forgiving. You can make fun of me all you want, emphasizing that I’m Miss and not Mrs., but you treat her with the respect someone her age deserves.”

He moved her hand away from his chest and leaned into her face. “You might try practicing some of the charity you’re named for and at least give me a chance to defend myself. I was talking about our cow. In case you haven’t noticed, I have milk all over my legs and boots because she knocked against the pail.”

Heat rushed to Charity’s cheeks. She stepped back. “Oh.”

He stood with his hands on his hips. “That’s a good comeback, Miss Kelso.”

She sensed a blush’s heat spreading across her face and neck. “Once again, I must ask your pardon.”

“When you’re angry, sparks fly from those big blue eyes. Reckon I’m lucky I wasn’t set on fire.” He closed the short distance between them and he brushed a hand gently along her cheek.

She knew he was going to kiss her but stood frozen in place. He tilted her head up to meet his and pressed his lips on hers. She thought he would withdraw then, but his arms were around her, pulling her closer. As if they had minds of their own, her arms encircled him.

When they broke apart, he stared at her with a horrified expression. “Damn.”

With the realization she’d cooperated in the kiss and even enjoyed it, horror shot through her. “My stars.”

She took a deep breath and left the office.

Fantastic 99 cent Romance Deal!

Dear Readers:

As I get ready to attend the New England Romance Writers of America Conference in Massachusetts, I pulled out books that I will be signing for readers who will attend the literacy signing today.  One of the books, THE KNIGHT AND MAGGIE'S BABY, my New York Times Bestseller, had me pausing and flipping through the pages of the book.

I'm a sucker for fairytale romances and I love THE KNIGHT AND MAGGIE'S BABY because it has that same feel.  It's a tried and true rags to riches plot about a Maggie, a pregnant coffee shop owner and a dashing modern day English Knight who enter into a marriage of convenience.  I have always loved this story.  Some scenes still bring me to tears and some give me laugh out loud moments.  Readers have said of THE KNIGHT AND MAGGIE'S BABY:

"Heartwarming and wonderful!"

"This was an incredible story about love and devotion. Even prior to the mountain of emotions that readers feel through Jonah and Maggie; a mother loves for her child could be no greater. This was a heartfelt and emotional read."

"Warm. Witty. The type of modern day Cinderella story that has you rooting for the heroine to win her prince."

This weekend only you can get THE KNIGHT AND MAGGIE'S BABY for just 99¢!

Sometimes fate needs a little help…

Now that he’s living in America, his work is going along just fine…until his grandfather gives fate a little nudge by insisting he take a wife before he can inherit.

Coffee shop owner, Maggie Bonelli, is pregnant and the baby’s dad has gone AWOL. She knows too well the pain of growing up without a daddy. So when Jonah Wallace comes into her shop proposing marriage for a year, she takes him up on his offer, even if it’s only for a year. Live in a mansion and give her baby a name and a daddy to call his/her own. But can they keep their perfect arraignment strictly business…or will fate’s helping hand bring them love at last?

Excerpt from BLACK PETALS...My Life on Paper

“There are no GREATER agony than bearing an untold story inside of you”
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou

I love writing and I consider myself as an creative wordsmith whether if it is for a book project, blog article, content I can put “WORDS” together in a instant for anyone, anything and at any place literally…When I develop ideas and themes I keep it original, professional, personal if need be and common. My first goal while writing  is to satisfy and make it as simple as possible for my audience to embrace, enjoy and want more……

Interview with Chrissy "Bee" Compton

How did I come up with the title for my poetry book?

At first, I started writing the book as my personal journal which was in the year of 2007. I did not have a title for it back then I was just writing short diaries and poems to myself while I was going through some very emotional obstacles, unhealthy relationships and challenging choices where I would write back then and even unto today… for therapy!

Why did I choose to write the book in Poetry form instead of an Autobiography?

Any who, when I decided to turn this journal into a book .about my life but yet be discreet..and not wanting an average autobiography either..I prayed about it and came up with creating it in rare poetry form and because I was and so many others have or are experiencing emotional and physical heartaches and abuse …that is how I came up with the title…Delicate but in a Dark Place… but only for a little while….”Black Petals…My Life On Paper.

How long have I been writing books?

Well,,,,I have been writing short stories, poetry, quotes and creating content ever since I was the age 17, especially after my mom passed away at the age of 37 with breast cancer and by me being the eldest child I had a large responsibility besides attending high school I also had to take care of my siblings so, therefore, I did not have much of an outlet but writing…However, I always had two dreams while growing up and even in my early adulthood which were to become in my life and was an #Author and a #Nurse and I am currently doing both NOW! Actually, this is my very first book which I self- published myself.

Who are my inspirations?

My two sons/two grandchildren, My two grandmothers (deceased) and my mommy (deceased). My reason being is because they ALL either had planted some sort of seed of strength mechanism by experiencing the struggle of life but yet still continued to press forward into their lives in order to make adjustments for me and others in my family to believe that we can do anything that we put our mindset to do and just leap by faith and do it even if you fall.!…There is no such thing as a failure in my vocabulary because I heard it all my earlier days of my life and I became toxic and damaged by it until I decided to remind myself that I am able to get back up after every fall until I get it right …and walk right into it…my divine destiny as an exceptional writer!

What am I currently working on?

I am completing my second book which is a two part series #Urban fiction which I am so very excited about.I have not made mention of it actually until I meet with the publishing house for processing and then I will  briefly announce it on my social media pages and so forth and here, on AAMBC of course! My deadline for Part One will be late July 2017 early portion of August. I am also working on my blog articles of course, where I am the CEO of Queen Pen Guru Ink where I am developing an online courses for content writing, Mindset prep before launching out into the Author industry…and much more! I have a very vivid, creative imagination…..for this….I just love ii I even would like to write for scripts for movies and staged plays.

If I could write and work as a team who would it be?

Now, this is a difficult question which I came up for myself…actually because I have a lot of choices because there are so many influential authors, writers, mentors etc. that I have encountered ever since I have published my book, marketing my own product and creating my own content to get myself exposed to the writing world….So, my answer would be whomever that  fits within the plan of my divine journey and has my goals, ideas and growth at their genuine best interest and ONE MORE THING..I would love to do some writing for someone or with someone in to Atlanta, Georgia. I use to reside there years ago and I just could see myself NOW ..Anything is possible.. YES!
What would be a word of encouragement from Chrissy “Bee”?

To “Never Settle” Until YOU Have completed, accomplished and SUCCEEDED!
